10 Great Vacation!
Driving up Route 1 with my family was such a treat. The scenary was beautiful and there were so many great site and attractions to visit along with way. I reccommend staying in a yurt for a night of two in you can. Show Less Driving up Route 1 with my family was such a treat. 10 Glass Flowers, dinosaurs, meteorites, on the Harvard campus
Don’t miss the world famous exhibit of 3,000 ‘Glass Flowers’, amazingly realistic models of plants, fruits and flowers created by father-son glass artists Leopold and Rudolph Blaschka from 1886-1936. You won’t believe they’re not real. Explore 12,000 specimens drawn from Harvard’s vast research collections at the University's most visited museum -- dinosaurs, meteorites, gemstones, and hundreds of prehistoric and current-day animals from around the globe. Get close to the world’s only mounted Kronosaurus, a 42 ft-long marine reptile; one of the first Triceratops ever discovered; a 1,642 lb. amethyst geode; 3 whale skeletons. The museum is on the Harvard University campus, just a short, 7-10 minute walk through historic Harvard Yard from the Harvard Square MBTA Red Line ‘T’ station. Open daily, 9 am – 5 pm, 361 days/year. Handicapped accessible. Explore www.hmnh.harvard.edu for changing exhibitions, dozens of lectures, events, classes for all ages, year-round. See website for directions and parking information. 7 nice spot, great beer, ok tour, takeways a bit steep
Allagash Brewing operates in a lovely building in a business park, which looks about as odd as it probably sounds. The tasting room is small but comfortable, and the beer is extraordinarily well-made in small batches: the bourbon-barrel beers here are as good as I've tried anywhere. The tour was brief, and only became truly informative when guests started asking good questions about ingredient selection and aging methods. Two things: I always find it strange when American breweries sell beer in four-packs instead of six-packs, which Allagash does, and the prices at the brewery seem to be slightly higher than at a retail establishment. 10 Portland Japanese Gardens
One of the most memorable afternoons I spent was walking around the Japanese Gardens. Beautiful, serene, and meticulously maintained. I only wish I could have spent more time, perhaps with a great book and a cup of tea. Show Less One of the most memorable afternoons I spent was walking around the Japanese Gardens. Journeys Into Hidden America

From The Boston Globe:

Few food destinations are more synonymous with summer on the New England coastline than the region's countless clam and lobster shacks, which incidentally do little for the waist line. Still, who can resist the promise of your choice of seafood, battered and fried to perfection? Here are some of the best of the New…
